Measure the trend.
Not your worth.

Estimate body fat with the Jackson and Pollock 3-site or 7-site skinfold method. Your values stay in this browser and are never sent to BVK Lifestyle.

01

Choose a method

Three sites is faster. Seven sites gives a broader sample when technique is consistent.

02

Your inputs

The equations use sex-specific coefficients. Weight is only used to estimate fat mass and lean mass.

Skinfold readings

Use the right side. Take two readings per site, repeat when they differ by more than 2 mm, then enter the average.

1Mark the site

Measure the anatomical landmark before pinching. Do not guess the location.

2Pinch skin and fat

Lift the fold away from the muscle. Keep holding the fold while reading.

3Place the caliper

Apply it about 1 cm from your fingers, perpendicular to the fold.

4Track consistently

Use the same side, time of day, method and technique. Focus on the trend.

What this number means

This is a field estimate, not a diagnosis. Skinfold results depend heavily on site placement, caliper pressure, technique and the population used to build the equation. Do not compare results from different methods as if they are interchangeable.

The original generalized equations were developed for adult men aged 18 to 61 and adult women aged 18 to 55. The age and sex reference bands shown with a result are broad population context only. They are not an individual diagnosis, judgement or health target.

Method and reference sources: Jackson and Pollock, men, Jackson, Pollock and Ward, women, Gallagher and colleagues, adult reference ranges, ACE adult comparison categories as reproduced by Garmin, and the International Society of Sports Nutrition position stand for measurement context.
